Pair & Hoang Orthodontics has been family-owned since 1990, when Dr. David Pair opened the Northridge office. Today his son Dr. Jason Pair and partner Dr. Michael Hoang care for patients of all ages across the San Fernando Valley, many of them children and grandchildren of the practice's first patients. Both doctors are board certified, and both stay involved in every detail of your treatment, from the first scan to the final retainer check.

Pair & Hoang Orthodontics has proudly served families throughout the San Fernando Valley since 1990, when Dr. David Pair founded the practice with a commitment to exceptional care and treating every patient like family.
Today, that legacy continues through his son, Dr. Jason Pair, who leads the practice alongside Dr. Michael Hoang. Their partnership began at UCLA, where Dr. Pair mentored Dr. Hoang during his orthodontic residency. After graduating from the UCLA Orthodontic Residency Program in 2018, Dr. Hoang joined the practice, continuing a partnership rooted in mentorship, clinical excellence, and exceptional patient care.
Both orthodontists are ABO board-certified orthodontists, Angle Society members, and serve as UCLA clinical instructors while providing state-of-the-art orthodontic care to children, teens, and adults throughout the San Fernando Valley.
For more than 35 years, local families have trusted our team with their smiles. Many of our patients now bring their own children, and even grandchildren, to our office, making Pair & Hoang Orthodontics a truly multi-generational practice built on relationships, trust, and exceptional results.
MEET DRS. PAIR & HOANG
Dr. Jason Pair
BACKGROUND
Dr. Jason Pair grew up around the practice his father founded and returned to it after his residency at UCLA. Away from the office he's usually hiking, surfing, skiing, woodworking, or out with his camera. Dr. Michael Hoang, a UC Irvine and UCLA graduate, spends his free time hiking and traveling internationally with his family.
EDUCATION
Dr. Pair earned his dental degree at UCSF, graduating second in a class of 91 and joining the Omicron Kappa Upsilon dental honor society, then served as chief resident of the UCLA orthodontic program. Dr. Hoang graduated with honors from the UCLA School of Dentistry, was chief resident of the same UCLA program, and earned a master's degree in oral biology along the way. Both doctors now teach in UCLA's orthodontic residency.

Dr. Michael Hoang
BACKGROUND
Dr. Michael Hoang is a board-certified orthodontist who grew up in sunny Southern California. He graduated magna cum laude from University of California, Irvine where he earned his B.S. in Biological Sciences and was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. He then continued his education at UCLA School of Dentistry, where he graduated with honors. Finally, he stayed to complete his Orthodontic residency at UCLA, where he served as chief resident and concurrently earned his M.S. in Oral Biology.
EDUCATION
Dr. Michael comes from a Bruin family of dentists, joining his father who graduated from UCLA Orthodontics and his sister who graduated from UCLA School of Dentistry. At UCLA, Dr. Jason Pair served as his clinical instructor during residency. Life has come full circle now for Dr. Michael, as he has joined Dr. Jason as a part-time faculty member to lead treatment planning seminars at UCLA Section of Orthodontics and provide clinical instruction to the residents. In addition, he currently serves as the president of the UCLA Alumni Association. He is a member of the American Association of Orthodontics, the California Association of Orthodontics, the American Dental Association, the California Dental Association, and the Western Los Angeles Dental Society.

MEET THE TEAMTraditional Braces
Metal braces are a time-tested orthodontic solution designed to straighten teeth and correct jaw misalignments, addressing issues like overbite, underbite, crossbite, open bite, gaps between teeth, crookedness, and overcrowding. Braces feature durable stainless steel brackets, carefully bonded to the front of each tooth with a strong dental adhesive. An archwire connects the brackets and acts as the guiding force. Dr. Pair and Dr. Hoang adjust it at regular visits, applying steady pressure that gradually moves your teeth into their ideal positions. The practice also offers the Damon System, a self-ligating design that can mean fewer adjustment visits.

Phase One Treatment
The primary objective of Phase One orthodontic treatment is to guide the growth and development of the jaw to ensure proper alignment of the upper and lower jaws and to create sufficient space for the eruption of permanent teeth. During early childhood, certain jaw discrepancies—such as excessive upper jaw growth or a narrow palate—can often be identified. When these conditions are detected in children over the age of six, early orthodontic intervention may be recommended. Additionally, if crowding of the front teeth is observed around age eight, early treatment can help create the necessary space and may reduce the likelihood of permanent tooth extractions in the future.
